Melodie's Bio
Melodie has been a professional children's entertainer, musician, actress, and teacher for more than 15 years. Face painting, sing-along, balloon creations or just clowning around, young and old alike participate in her joyous style of active, creative entertainment.
A 1989 University of Toronto drama graduate with a minor in English, Melodie has been an instructor at the Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology (Toronto, Newmarket, Markham) since 1990. There, she teaches a variety of courses in drama and English, including Creative Drama for Children. She also has taught children's drama, music, and mime at creativity camps in Ontario as well as in the United States. Her recent workshops include Introduction to Balloon Twisting, Finding Your Personal Clown, Create-A-Clown, and Drama in the Classroom.
Since her first appearance as Lucy in "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" in 1978, Melodie has appeared in many musicals and non-musical plays. She's been clowning around since performing in Toronto as part of Dr. Bandoli's Travelling Goodtime Show, a production of the Bandoli Theatre Company. Her performance credits include "Journey from AMU" (Bobbi), "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" (Bilha), "Jesus Christ Superstar" (Disciple), "The Shadow Box" (Felicity), "Hair" (Jeannie), "Gilgamesh", "Aida", "The Robber Bridegroom", and others. Her mezzo soprano voice has enriched university chorales, chamber choirs, ensembles, and even a barbershop chorus.
Expressing her ongoing interest in physical health as well as creative health, Melodie is a certified professional fitness leader at her own studio. She has taught fitness classes at facilities including the University of Toronto and the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Technology, and her workshops have been featured at several health fairs.
